Services for Scouting Herts

If your section needs support with their gas; please do not hesitate to reach out. I can offer:

LPG appliance testing.
Full certification of kit for use in public settings for fundraising events.
LPG hose testing, certification & replacement.
Refurbishment & repair of equipment.
Training of leaders for the safe use and care of LPG kit.

There is a legal requirement for all cylinder supplied kit to be tested annually by an approved person. Hoses and regulators should also be checked.

Orange and black high pressure hoses should be inspected annually. High pressure hoses will have a manufactured or expiry date and should be replaced every 3 years. Ideally all orange hoses should be replaced with overbraided hose where possible to reduce risk.

POR, the section on "Using Gas Safely"

Although there is no legal requirement for any gas appliances powered by disposable cannisters to be tested (Trangia's, Jet Boils, Tilley conversions, etc), they should still be well maintained and looked after, so when kit becomes troublesome and kit is in need of repair, I am happy to take certain items away for refurbishment.

Scouting Charges

Scouting services for sections are charged at material cost without labour.

As much as I would love to support the leaders and volunteers more, I cannot afford to extend a discount to your own homes or personal kit (Except in exceptional circumstances; speak with me in confidence if you are struggling financially and have an issue with your home appliance[s]).

SAFETY RECALL NOTICES

This is not an exhaustive list of everything that has been recalled; it is simply a reference for leaders to make themselves aware. As kit is identified, I will update the list.

If you are a leader and are aware of an issue, please contact me and I can add the product.

Clesse NovaComet BP1803
Clesse NovaComet Regulator with labelling on side showing BP1803

If you have this regulator in your box of regulators on camp or in storage and it was maufacturered between 2010-2015, then you need to replace it straight away; these were very popular and I still find a lot of them in circulation; but they are potentially very dangerous. Clesse are no longer offering free replacement.

Recall notice.

Clesse Compact 800
Clesse Compact 800 manufacturered in 2013.

Pretty rare in UK Scouting, but not impossible to find. The Clesse Compact 800 manufactured in 2013 has an issue and was commonly found on NCASS issued kit. Most have since failed and been replaced, but just in case.

Recall notice.

Optimus 2 Burner Stove
Optimus 2 Burner Gas Stove, silver/grey in colour with fold out legs.

Popular brand with the climbing community, this one manufactured 2021-2022 has a manufacturing defect which can lead to an internal gas leak and fire/explosion.

Recall notice.

OEX Savo and OEX Novo Stoves
Foldable stove found within DofE kit.

Available since 2023 and still units within the batch codes can be found for sale; the large volume of these by popular high street retailers and their saturation amongst the DofE market means leaders should be aware of them. These stoves have a potential hose issue which allows rapid deterioration resulting in gas leakage and have been recalled from UK market - Not all stoves are affected, so please check the recall notice.

Recall notice.

Vango ACXSTOVE
Foldable stove found within DofE kit.

Available since 2022 with high market saturation, leaders should be aware of them. These stoves have a potential hose issue which allows rapid deterioration resulting in gas leakage and have been recalled - Not all stoves are affected, so please check the recall notice.
